Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Dovetail Learning has a clear vision:
Be a place where a diverse mix of talented people want to come, to stay, and do their best work.

Our Vision

Our organization runs on the hard work and dedication of our passionate, creative employees and board members. We know that a diverse workplace means we can better accomplish our objectives together because of our differences, not in spite of them.

We understand that living our value of promoting diversity, equity and inclusion requires continuous unlearning and learning. Part of that process has been a series of workshops facilitated by ManyRivers Healing as well as ongoing conversations with our BIPOC partners and within our organization.

Dovetail Learning is committed to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion through:

Personal Transformation

  • Lived experience. We are committed to listening and learning from our own and others’ lived experience. Stories are powerful and we believe in the mantra that “words create worlds.”
  • Use privilege to help. We are committed to examining how our privilege has impacted others and using our privilege to advance others and drive change by modeling it in ourselves.
  • Accountability and compassion. As learning is an ongoing process, we acknowledge we will continue to make mistakes.  We will hold ourselves accountable for learning from our mistakes and apologizing for them while holding ourselves and others in compassion.

Organizational Transformation

  • Values. Our values at Dovetail Learning are centered on equity, dignity, courage, vulnerability, and love.
  • Bias. We acknowledge that individual and institutional bias have excluded marginalized people within and outside of our organization from the work of our organization, regardless of the intention of those with the power to exclude.
  • Commitment to diversity. We are committed to ongoing self examination to illuminate bias. We are committed to pursuing social and racial equity within our organization and to diversifying our workplace.

Facilitating Personal and Organizational Transformation with Others

  • Trauma-informed strengths. When addressed with compassion and care, we recognize that trauma can be a source of strength and healing, leading to inner and outer transformation.
  • Restorative practices. Conversations to promote social justice can be complicated and unsuccessful. The We Are Resilient™ approach equips all of us to have these difficult conversations more effectively. By creating environments of honesty and safety, restorative healing and social justice become possible.
  • Cultural Patterns. We educate ourselves and others to better understand the impact of Cultural Patterns, and how they can produce, as well as uncover bias in ourselves, others, and our organizations. Understanding can lead to compassion.
  • Organizational change begins with personal change. By seeing the limiting impacts of our own Protective Patterns, we can transform our relationships to become strong partners and agents of change for our organizations.

Systems Transformation

  • Power dynamics. While we are working to prevent it, we understand our approach can be used by those who want to maintain the current power dynamics.
  • Advocacy. We are committed to advocating for systems change that supports social justice.
  • Collaboration drives systemic transformation. The We Are Resilient™ approach builds integrity through healthy and honest dialog that helps communities work effectively toward change together.
