The We Are Resilient™ Approach

We Are Resilient™ offers simple, effective, and research-based skills that help medical administrators,
healthcare providers, and clinic staff cope with stress and develop a stronger team.
These skills help us Center, Connect, and Collaborate.

STEP 1: Starts with Noticing our Protective Patterns

Protective Patterns
When facing a challenge, our initial response can be a common pattern of reactive resilience. These default reactions can be:
• Normal under stress
• Developed as protective mechanism
• Helpful in certain circumstances
• Limiting for us
• Assessed for each situation: Is my reaction helping or making it worse?

STEP 2: Skills for Centering Myself

Centering Skills
When facing a challenge, we can choose our Centering Skills to mindfully engage our Personal Resilience. These skills can:
  • Restore inner balance
  • Relieve stress and anxiety
  • Reduce negative thoughts
  • Enable focus on the present
  • Support pursuit of goals

STEP 3: Skills for Connecting with Others

Connecting Skills
When a relationship is experiencing difficulties, we can choose our Connecting Skills to grow our Relational Resilience. These skills can:
  • Create safety, trust, and belonging
  • Enable an open mind and curiosity
  • Reduce blame, judgement, and bias
  • Encourage equity

STEP 4: Skills for Collaborating Together

Collaborating Skills
When a group is not working well together, we can choose our Collaborating Skills to strengthen Group Resilience. These skills can:
  • Foster a shared vision
  • Honor contributions of all
  • Encourage healthy boundaries
  • Create shared accountability
  • Support pursuit of common goals
