I’ve been learning a LOT about healing hearts recently. For those of you who don’t know, I had a heart attack in April and triple bypass surgery in September. I’m doing great on my road to recovery and am deeply grateful to the miracles of modern medicine. My cardiologist told me that I’m now ready to climb many more mountains!
One of my figurative mountains is doing the inner work to understand how ‘broken hearts’ come from broken relationships. In my case, it included significant Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and a lifetime of stress and betrayal related to important men in my life. These ACEs and betrayals impacted my heart — both physically and emotionally. I am grateful for the work my surgeon has done to repair my physical heart — and I am grateful for We Are Resilient™ as it guides me to do the inner work of repairing my emotional heart.
Resilience comes from the skills that help us navigate the hardest of times. Our work, We Are Resilient™, continues to teach me how to navigate life with courage, kindness, and love. These are the skills I continue to learn and that we teach to pediatricians, educators, and families.
How can I better Center myself (self-regulate), Connect with others (open my heart), and Collaborate for the betterment of humankind (join hands with others to make a real difference)? It’s all about love.
One does not need to seek love. Only to remove the obstacles to love. ~ CIM
